Embedded System Design
Embedded system design, which includes design of embedded processors, embedded software and embedded hardware, is central to promoting SoC system design. To enhance research and development in the embedded system field, CIC constructed a state-of-the-art design environment for embedded systems that has been up and running since Jan 2006. CIC offers a world-class embedded hardware platform and embedded development software for academic use. Moreover, CIC also offers high-quality training courses and design services targeted at training students to be experts in embedded system design.
Regarding the promotion of research and technology for embedded system design, CIC provides design services which are as follows.
(1)CIC offers technical consultation for embedded software development (such as bootloader porting, Linux
kernel porting, device driver, and user applications) and embedded hardware platforms, for either
single-core or dual-core architectures, to the academia.
In 2006, CIC delivered embedded software development platforms (ARM926EJ +DSP) and development
software to academia.
In 2007, CIC introduced three domestic self-designed embedded system platforms to the academia for
establishing competitive development environment, and making connections between the domestic industrial
and academic circles.
The characteristics of these three domestic self-designed embedded system platforms shortly listed below:
●SunPlus S+Core-SPCE3200 Platform
SPCE3200 is a SOC based on S+Core, a domestic 32-bit self-designed instruction set RISC CPU.
A well-integrated development and debugging IDE environment as well as a ported eCOS system is offered
with the platform, helpful for the HDS and application developing. With rich peripherals integrated, the
SPCE3200 platform is suitable for multi-media application and algorithm research.
●ANDES Leopard Platform ESL Tools
The AndeScore is a RISC implementation of AndeStar, a domestic self-designed instruction set
architecture.
It also offers a well-integrated development and debugging IDE environment and a well-ported Linux kernel.
CIC also introduced the AndeSLive ESL tool to the academia for research usage.
With the platform and tools, the researcher on computer architecture would get benefit on their research.
●ITRI PAC-PMP Platform
PAC-PMP is a dual core SOC with the first domestic DSP, PACDSP, and an ARM922T core.
The platform goes with well documented spec, reference code and toolchain for the PACDSP, and fits
various merchant and free tools for ARM part.
With DVFS technology integrated, the platform is suitable for low power, DSP, VLIW related research.
